22% faster than the Intel Core i9-13980HX
The fight for gaming on PC/desktop that pitted the new Ryzen 7000X3D against the Intel Core 13 a few days ago has been resolved and revealed, now the war moves to the side of mobility, specifically, to laptops. And it is that AMD’s counterattack is being very aggressive and violent, especially with its flagships, highlighting here the new Ryzen 9 7945HXwhich exceeds and by far the same watts to its maximum rival, the i9-13980HX. Something very important considering the batteries, since it beats it for a 22% at the same consumption.
With 16 cores and 32 threadsHowever, the Zen 4 architecture that is integrated inside this Ryzen 9 7945HX is certainly a chip in the foot for Intel. The first data shows that the fight for the gaming environment will not be easy and that AMD is in laptops to stay and even to usurp the throne, something that it has been trying with more or less success in recent years, but this time…
AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX vs Intel Core i9-13980HX, battle for laptop performance
Notebookcheck colleagues have been able to get their hands on a laptop ASUS Zephyrus DUO 16 GX650PY-NM006Wwhich integrates the latest from the red team in terms of processor and this is accompanied by a whole NVIDIA RTX 4090.
The first tests offer very revealing and disparate data by themselves, breaking down three key sections such as single-core performance, Multi-Core performance and gaming performance. Three tests that will later be completed with others, but that leave us the first data and headlines, so we are going to know them section by section.
Single Core Performance
Five benchmarks have been released to give us overall percentages, where here the i9-13980HX outperforms its rival 7945HX by almost a 4%now, the AMD is much more efficient registering only 27W for the 36W of the option of the blues.
The performance of the AMD processor is almost on a par with the i9-13950HX, separated by only 0.2 points out of 100 and giving the same percentage of difference with the already mentioned top of the range blues. In terms of differences with its 6900HX predecessor, this new processor surpasses it by no less than a 27%. A huge leap for a single generation.
Multi-core performance
Here the tables are reversed, probably due to the high consumption of Intel CPUs and the better efficiency of AMD, which does not push the laptop’s cooling system to the limit. Proof of this is that he is victorious after the same previous tests with 91.8 points5% better than its rival and 4% faster than the i9-13950HX, which, even though it is slower on paper than the i9-13980HX, thanks to its lower consumption, manages to prevail by the minimum while being faster.
Buying with its predecessor once again, we see an impressive +152% increaseIt’s not that it plays in another league, it’s that it’s literally another world here, but of course, it does it with twice as many cores as this one and with a higher frequency, so that incredible percentage of improvement is understandable.
What can the 7945HX vs 13980HX do in gaming?
It is the key section without a doubt, since we are talking about processors for a gaming environment. Here 6 quite different games have been used and although the i9-13980HX has not been tested here, there is its younger brother, the i9-13950HX and twice.
What we can see is that the latter manages to endorse him 6.1 points totals to the Ryzen 9 7945HX, but it is true that the same processor in a Razer Blade 16 is only at 0.6 points away. So we understand that the MSI Titan GT77 HX 13VI has a much better cooling system, and because of this, the CPU does not go into throttling allowing better performance.
Unfortunately, the only fair and comparative way to test all processors would be to do it in the same laptop with the same cooling, but this is generally not possible because almost no manufacturer is committed to exactly the same version for Intel and AMD.
Likewise, since the Zephyrus Duo 16 as such is not an extreme laptop focused solely on gaming, but rather tries to offer more versatility, it is more than likely that we will see this Ryzen 9 7945HX climbing the ranks vs. top models for this Dragon Range architecturewhich it’s going to be a headache for Intel without a doubt.
