635 km with fast charging, SmartZone and new engines
One of the revelation cars for this 2023 will undoubtedly be the Polestar 2 EV, which will have a series of improvements that the company has already revealed for…2024! Yes, 2023 has just begun and, on the other hand, from Sweden we already have the changes that this electric fastback is going to have, and as such, they are quite interesting as a compact vehicle to reach the market it aspires to, which is not Other than the premium, almost nothing. Therefore, we are going to see what the company is going to introduce in this Polestar 2 2024.
If you are a fan of the brand, you will have seen some of the improvements that the Polestar 3. Well, the brand wants to equalize the contention in its best-selling car with a series of updates that come from its older brother and something new that is introduced for the first time in one of its cars.
Polestar 2 2024, the car that aims to compete with the premium
This 5-door electric fastback It will have substantial improvements in the performance of the electric motors, which will be completely new to accommodate something that we have not yet seen in any car of the brand: rear-wheel drive.
In addition, these new motors, which can be one if required in their configuration, will be accompanied by even more powerful batteries and, as if that were not enough, improvements in sustainability:
“Usually in the automotive industry, a facelift (restyling) introduces superficial visual changes that often destroy the original desEsports Extrasintent of the car. With the new Polestar 2 model, we prefer to go beyond the surface and improve the substantial technological and mechanical components of the electric drivetrain. This is the best Polestar 2 to date, and with the front desEsports Extrasupdated with the new SmartZoneit’s also the most attractive,” says Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath.
SmartZone is an interesting change that integrates more security features to this Polestar 2 2024. Starting with a new front camera and a mid-range radarthese will be complemented with some 20 inch wheels if the Performance Packgiving on the one hand greater security and on the other a sportier aspect to the car.
New engines, total refinement and rear-wheel drive
As for the motors, the brand ensures that the new versions with more efficient electrical inverters will be in all standard versions. But if we want the so-called rear-wheel drive, logically we will only have one of them on the rear axle, which will have a silicon carbide inverter.
The improvement here for the engines is huge, as we go from 170 kW to 220 kW or what is the same, it will give a jump in motor torque of 330Nm to 490Nm. With these data, 0 to 100 km/h has dropped no less than 1.2 seconds to obtain 6.2s overall. Instead, the two-motor version, one per axle, will have a completely rebalanced transmission setup and torque ratio.
The motors are asynchronous, giving more torque to the rear, which now achieves 310 kW and 740 Nm. For this reason, it will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 secondswhich will be lowered with the Performance Pack up to 4.2 secondssupercar times.
As for the batteries, now we can quickly charge up to 205 kW via DC and 135 kW for standard range batteries, which will give next year an autonomy of 592 WLTP, an increase of 105 km with the two-engine version. Instead, the version with an engine and rear-wheel drive remains in 518kmincreasing 40 km compared to the current version, not bad considering that it is of standard range.
Finally, the Polestar 2 2024 with a single engine and long range (Range Extender) goes to the 635km, increasing their numbers by 84 km. Finally, one of the most important sections, prices. These range from the €50,190 for the lower end version and normal range, up to the €64,690 for the most powerful and extended range version. There is no date of arrival on the market, but we understand that it will be from the month of January of next year.
