A small problem with the physical versions of Advance Wars on Switch
In March 2022, Nintendo postponed indefinitely the release of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp on Switch weeks after its release in April. This due to the invasion of Russia in Ukraine. Many physical copies remained undistributed for close to a year, pending further order. The game has finally seen the light of day and these physical copies contain an unforeseen detail for then.
It is not about the game cartridge, fortunately, which promises the same playable quality of the original title. The affected item is My Nintendo gold points or coins. According to the Australian site Vooks, trying to redeem points for the physical cartridge results in an error that says: “You cannot claim My Nintendo points for this software as the expiration date has passed.”
Other users on Reddit reported the same issue with the physical versions of Advance Wars on Switch. Although the code for these golden dots came on a printed insert in the Nintendo 3DS games, in the case of Switch it is necessary to enter the menu of the inserted cartridge with the + button. From there you have to manually go to the ‘My Nintendo rewards program’ and claim them only once.
The physical copy of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp awards 80 My Nintendo Gold Points.
These points must be redeemed within a year or two of the launch. The term depends on the region. Since the game was scheduled to release on April 8, 2022, it’s entirely possible that Nintendo forgot to update the servers that check the cartridge’s legality to award the points to the user’s account. We hope that the company will come up with a feasible solution. Those affected can always go to Nintendo customer service by any means.
