Adult Swim Breaks Relations With Rick and Morty Creator Over Domestic Violence Allegation
The main voice behind Rick and Morty will not return in the seventh season due to the report and accusation of domestic violence.
Adult Swim announced Tuesday that it was cutting ties with series co-creator Justin Roiland, a decision that comes just weeks after news broke that he was facing two felony domestic abuse charges as of 2020.
“Adult Swim has ended their association with Justin Roiland,” the Rick and Morty account tweeted today. “Rick and Morty will continue. The talented and dedicated team is hard at work on Season 7.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roiland’s voice roles will be reprized and Dan Harmon will remain sole creator until season 10.
Adult Swim did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Roiland could not immediately be reached for comment.
Earlier this month, Roiland appeared in court in an ongoing criminal case in California, where he faces felony charges of assault and battery domestic abuse and false imprisonment. The actor and showrunner has pleaded not guilty, but has not commented publicly on the allegations as of yet.
