After the success of Bluetooth speakers, every day we see how new portable projectors arrive…
Within five years from the undisputed leader to the shaky candidate for second place – what many would wish for the Bundesliga and FC Bayern Munich with its ten (!) titles in a row now applies to the Full HD resolution below you already.
At the beginning of 2017, almost two thirds of the participants in our survey at the time stated that they played in 1920×1080. After Full HD had already been relegated from first place last year with only 31.4 percent, this year third place is even coming close with a significantly lower 21.8 percent:
The 21:9 resolution 3440×1440, which is also known as UWQHD, is in third place with 17.2 percent. The increase compared to the last survey is around five percentage points. If Full HD’s losses and UWQHD’s gains continue at a similar rate, 1920×1080 should also be knocked out of second place next year.
It is even conceivable that it will only be enough for fourth place if the 4K resolution should increase a good bit at currently 13.8 percent. You can find out exactly what the 4K designation means in the following article:

The great crowd on Steam paints a completely different picture
The comparison with the values from the hardware survey on Steam is remarkable. In the current version for July 2022, Full HD takes first place by a wide margin at 67.1 percent, while the UWQHD resolution only comes in at 1.5 percent.
It’s also interesting Development of Full HD distribution on Steam in the past five years. The following information refers to the Steam survey results from July of the corresponding year:
While the adoption of Full HD has been in free fall in our surveys since 2017, on the contrary, it has mostly grown on Steam. That doesn’t come as a surprise, however, when you consider how large the number of players is there and that Steam is used worldwide.
