AMD explains how to configure your PC for a Ryzen 7000X3D CPU

After the reviews and the thousands of data that have been published about what these new Ryzen 7000X3D processors can or cannot do, now AMD arrives and explains how we have to configure our PC correctly. As a quick start guide for the Ryzen 7000X3D, the brand focuses on its two available options such as the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and the Ryzen 9 7900X3D. What do we need to give us maximum performance? This is how you should configure your PC for the new Ryzen 7000X3D.

Well they are only 5 steps, some logical, others basic and to top it all off, some detail to take into account, but together they will provide us, according to AMD, with everything necessary for their new processors to deliver 100% performance without a doubt. That being said, let’s go point by point.

How to configure your PC for a Ryzen 7000X3D according to AMD

From the hand of Christian Babcock in the official AMD forum, the company offers us this basic guide for proper operation as quick start requirements with these 5 points:

  • windows
  • BIOS
  • drivers
  • game mode
  • Xbox Game Bar

So, known and introduced, let’s go to them quickly.

Ryzen 7000X3Ds need an updated version of Windows 10 or Windows 11

AMD-Windows-Ryzen

Seeing the news and what happened with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, this step prior to installing the processor was logical. In fact, AMD recommends a clean install with Windows 11 21H2 2000.1455 or Windows 10 version 1903 build 19044.2546.

Be careful because in Windows 10 we can have activated the VBS that so much headline gave at the time and this can report errors with the L3 of the processor, specifically, AMD talks about incorrect L3 reports. So better to disable this feature.

Update motherboard BIOS

Another classic that without this we will not be able to use the processor because the firmware will not recognize it, so before installing it, it is better to use the latest version available. There is not much more to say here.

Use the latest chipset driver

It is something that we talked about at the beginning of the week and that even last week we already slipped with the leak of the latest driver for the AMD chipset. Being specific, the brand ensures that for processors with 3D V-Cache we need the version 5.02.16.347 (or later) to achieve the best performance and the best stability.

If we do not have the driver installed in its corresponding version, those of the red team assure that we will not have the performance optimizations for gaming, and therefore, we will have poor FPS. Of course, once the driver is installed, they recommend restarting the PC.

Windows game mode enabled

Curiously, and after rivers of ink on this setting of Microsoft’s own OS, AMD now recommends its use. Apparently, having it enabled implies that the driver can do its job well and assEsports Extrasthe correct charges depending on the type of CCD to which they are assigned, but this would be done through the Windows kernel, enabling this Game mode or Game Modeas each one prefers to call it.

Xbox Game Bar is mandatory and has to be up to date

Another curiosity that many of us have disabled by default. Here it cannot be, since AMD requires that it not only be present and functional, but that it be up to date in terms of updates. In fact, it recommends a version at least: 5.823.1271.0which is the most recent for now, by the way.

Why do we need Game Mode and now Xbox Game Bar? Well, everything revolves around AMD’s new thread segmentation technology, that is, the kernel of Windows allocates processes to the fastest cores allowing the slowest cores to drop their frequency if they are not needed, which is a way to alleviate high consumption as Intel does with E-Cores.

That said, we do not need anything else for our Ryzen 7000X3D to perform at 100%, this configuration of your PC is the base on which to work to squeeze the last FPS, at least, according to AMD.
