AMD has a graphics 8% faster than RX 7900 XTX and is Dual GPU

A few years ago, it was common to have PCs with multiple GPUs either using SLI from NVIDIA or Crossfire from AMD. Back then we could use several similar GPUs to increase performance in games and applications. Also around that time it was common for both NVIDIA and AMD to develop dual GPUs, basically two graphics cards rolled into one. As of today we do not have any of this on PC, but in 2021 the Mac Pro received a Radeon Pro W6800X Duothat with 2 RX 6800X GPUs has proven to be superior in performance to an RX 7900 XTX and RTX 4080.

Dual GPUs are considered a thing of the past, a trend that lasted from 2005 to 2014 when NVIDIA’s commercial GPUs are taken into account. Well, in this case, the last dual graph we saw was the Titan Z released in 2014. In the case of AMD, the 2016 Radeon Pro Duo It was his last release, although there was one more that came exclusively for Apple Macs. We are talking about the Radeon Pro W6800X Duo that by the name we can already imagine that it is two Radeon RX 6800X. In fact, they have the same 3,840 Shadersalthough the two intercommunicate through AMD Infinity Fabric.

Overclocker der8auer manages to install Mac’s AMD W6800X Duo on PC

This Radeon Pro 6800X Duo does not have a typical appearance of the graphics cards that we know, because being exclusive to the Mac Pro it comes as a MPX module. As for its appearance, it impresses, because it has no fan and to the naked eye it looks like a black metal brick with a 4 slot thickness. This passive dissipation system it’s designed to work with the Mac Pro fans, so it’s clearly not for mainstream PCs. After disassembling the huge heatsink, we find the graphics PCB where we actually see the two RX 6800X GPUs together on a single PCB.

We are talking about a very expensive graphics card that has a price of about 5750 euros who has a 400W PTO, so you need additional connectors to offer power beyond PCIe x16. To solve this problem, overclocker der8auer connected the graphics card to a PC via a PCIe riser and soldered two 12V and ground wires from a 12VHPWR cable to Apple connector. With this, he verified that it was indeed possible to connect this dual Apple GPU to a PC.

The W6800X Duo outperforms the RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XTX

Radeon Pro 6800X Duo Performance

Now that everything is working relatively “okay”, let’s proceed to the performance tests of the Radeon Pro W6800X Duo, but first we must remember that this dual GPU has an enormous capacity of 64GB by heart GDDR6 at 16Gbps and an interface 256 bit. Having said that, the graphics card has been installed in a PC equipped with a i9-13900K and 32 GB of DDR5 RAM to 6000MHz and CL30. The benchmark used has been 3DMark Time Spy Extreme GT1 and as we can see, the performance of the Radeon Pro W6800X Duo it is very high.

With 97.21FPSalmost triples the 38FPS of one RTX 3060Ti and easily outperforms RTX 3090 Ti and RX 6950 XT who stay in 67FPS. As if that were not enough, the RTX 4070Ti is annihilated, since it only reaches 71FPS with overclock. Although the most surprising thing is to see how outperforms the RX 7900 XTX by 8% and the RTX 4080 by 4%. It is only surpassed by one RTX 4090 who is left with some unattainable 123.5FPS. Of course, the performance of the Radeon Pro W6800X Duo has been achieved without the official drivers of Adrenalin and the only way to make it work was with the apple boot camp drivers.
