An Unreal Engine 5 developer says that a GPU with 8GB VRAM is already something obsolete to play – Xbox
An Epic Games developer has warned that the VRAM memory capacity of the GPUs will be decisive in order to enjoy high-quality games in the not too distant future. Although he mentions the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine as an example of the next generation of games, high-end GPUs are experiencing performance limitations due to the lack of VRAM in other graphics engines.
The beta version of Diablo IV shows that even the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GPU with 8 GB of VRAM is insufficient to play in 1080p resolution with maximum graphics settings. Another example is Hogwarts Legacy, which requires up to 15 GB of VRAM to enable Ray Tracing at full quality and 4K resolution; or even the recent Resident Evil 4 Remake, which asks for 16GB for the recommended requirements. Therefore, it is recommended to have a high-end GPU with at least 12 GB of VRAM to enjoy gaming at its best quality.
The PC problem remains the same, its rapid obsolescence
In the end it is clear that, once again, PCs continue to have the same problem, their obsolescence. They will always be more powerful than a console, but the optimization of the consoles is still a point in their favor, despite not reaching the technical level of the PC. The PC has been my secondary platform for a long time, I play everything and everything, and I think that today it is the definitive platform, but the console continues to offer me other things that the PC simply cannot.
The upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, which It will go on sale on April 13 for a price of more than 600 euros, it will offer only 12 GB of memory, which would be close to its usage limit. So it is recommended to aim for 16GB of memory to ensure optimal performance, but this will not solve the memory throttling problem. And neither is the one in your pocket, since nothing assures you that soon those 16GB will also fall short.

Be that as it may, I am convinced that the arrival of new graphics engines or higher versions will help to optimize this consumption of resources.
