Ubisoft revealed the first details and impressions at its Ubisoft Forward Event Assassin’s Creed Mirage shared, which will be released in 2023 and, as suspected, returns to the roots of the series.
The game says that Baghdad is at its peak in the 9th century and a world leader in science, art, innovation and commerce. Bustling streets lie ahead as a young orphan with a tragic past struggles to survive. That orphan is Basim, the new protagonist in Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
Another character introduced is Roshan, who was oppressed throughout her life but managed to escape. Roshan is a master assassin in the fortress of the Hidden Alamut. Now she takes Basim under her wing as her first real apprentice.
Baghdad itself presents itself as a dense and vibrant city, whose residents will respond to your every move as you discover the mysteries of four unique districts and experience the Golden Age of Baghdad.
Basim is a wily street thief with nightmarish visions looking for answers and justice. After an act of deadly vengeance, Basim flees Baghdad and joins an ancient organization – the Hidden (hidden ones). As Basim learns the mysterious rituals and their powerful principles, he will hone his unique abilities, discover his true nature, and embrace a new creed that will change Basim’s fate in ways he never imagined.
The best of 15 years of Assassin’s Creed
The previous leak also talked about a modern take on the iconic features and gameplay that have defined the franchise for 15 years. This is also addressed in the developer breakdown with Creative Director Stephane Boudon, Narrative Director Sarah Beaulieu, and Art Director Jean-Luc Sala, which we’ve attached below. You can playfully move seamlessly through the city, for example using parkour, and secretly eliminate targets with even more deadly assassinations.
“For the brand’s 15th anniversary, we wanted to offer players and our community something special,” said Stéphane Boudon, senior content director for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. “Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a tribute to the franchise and more importantly to the original game. We’re offering a modern take on the iconic Assassin’s Creed gameplay, delving deep into the rituals and teachings of the Hidden Ones – something we think will delight both long-time and new fans alike.”
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be released in 2023. The title will also be available as a Collectors Case, which comes with the Deluxe Edition and a high-quality figure of Basim (32cm), an exclusive SteelBook with a desEsports Extraschosen by the fans, a mini-artbook, a replica of Basim’s brooch, a map of Baghdad and a Selected Soundtrack of the game appear. Pre-orderers can also look forward to a few additional missions.
