Soon, we will have the opportunity to dive back into one of Ubisoft’s flagship sagas thanks to Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Highly anticipated, this new opus gradually unveils elements arousing strong reactions.
A particularly exciting point around Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the size of its map and the density of its environments. Marking a return to basics, this adventure takes place in a tighter area than the last three parts. But to what degree exactly?
Zoom on the map of Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Fan site Access The Animus, known for its reliable information on the Assassin’s Creed saga and in-depth analysis of trailers, has just shared a screenshot of the Assassin’s Creed Mirage map. The latter is believed to be from the Amazon exclusive editions of the game. Let’s take a closer look at that.
As mentioned in the tweet, this beautiful map reveals several areas around Baghdad, including the districts of Harbiyah, Karkh and Abbasiyah. Mesopotamian and Arabo-Persian history enthusiasts will also be delighted to find the locality of Dûr-Kurigalzu. In reality, its ruins are located 30 km from Baghdad, including the remains of a ziggurat (religious building) and the main temple of Aqar Quf.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage should also integrate a section of the province of Al-Anbar. A little historical detail: in 2004, this region became the main stronghold of the insurrection against American forces during the Iraq war. The game should also introduce us to Jariariyah and Alamut, fictional regions. In the game’s lore, Alamut, which means “Eagle’s Nest” in Persian, was once a temple of the First Civilization.
Later, Alamut became the heart of the Assassins’ activities during the Middle Ages, representing their most significant stronghold. The representation does not seem to correspond faithfully to the actual geographical location of Alamut Castle in Iran. If so, Ubisoft is showing some geographic creativity, which wouldn’t be a first for them. What is certain is that even if it has been carefully considered, the size of the map may be controversial because it is much smaller than in the AC RPG version.
A tribute game
It’s clear that Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a tribute to the first Assassin’s Creed games. Indeed, it also preserves the aspect of a more intimate map and the same kind of gameplay. The boundaries of this map are clearly defined, with a body of water serving as a natural barrier to delimit the playable space. There are also emblematic places of the franchise, such as the castle of Alamut. This was first revealed in the novel Assassin’s Creed: The Secret Crusade. Remember that the release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is scheduled for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series for October 5, 2023. For those who do not have the patience to wait, note that a presentation is planned during of the opening night of Gamescom 2023. In this regard, it takes place on August 22 at 8 p.m., with a new trailer.
