Avatar: The Sense of Water surpasses Titanic and is already the third highest grossing film in history
A few weeks ago we heard the news that Avatar: The Sense of Water had become the fourth highest grossing film in history, surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That means it was no longer too far from Titanic itself, also from James Cameron. Many analysts already predicted that the duel between the two blockbusters would end in victory for the blue aliens of Pandora. Now it’s official.
Disney has posted a clip and press release reporting that Avatar: The Shape of Water has grossed $2.243 billion worldwide, making it the #1 third highest grossing film of all timeas Titanic was at $2.242 million the last time we got a ticket sales update.
This latest update is a big one, as Titanic was re-released earlier this month, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it reclaimed the third spot. If it doesn’t, Avatar: The Shape of Water can at least try to set its sights on Avengers: Endgame, even if it seems impossible to hit the $2.799 million Marvel movie at this point.
