During the Xbox Games Showcase Extended broadcast yesterday afternoon we got a little more information about Obsidian’s upcoming RPG, Avowed. There was no gameplay, unfortunately, but the game’s director, Carrie Pateltold us a bit more about the game’s setting, story, and scale.
Our role in the story is that of an envoy from the Aedyr Empire, who ventures into the Living Lands to investigate a mysterious plague. Our mission is to stop it using our unique connection to said Living Lands. Avowed takes place in the same world as Pillars of Eternity, but apparently you won’t need any gaming experience or prior knowledge of the franchise to know what’s going on.
Regarding its size, Patel affirms that it is “more or less comparable “to that of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (of which we probably won’t see its remake anymore) and The Outer Worlds. Although there were original plans to make it as big as Skyrim, it does not seem that they have come to fruition.
Instead of a huge open world, the Living Lands will be available in interconnected open areas, where we can explore as much as we want or just get on with the main quest.
Are you looking forward to playing Avowed?
