Barbie continues to break records. The Greta Gerwig-directed film has now surpassed Christopher Nolan’s 2008 superhero film The Dark Knight at the US box office.

While Barbie is the WB’s biggest U.S. box office hit of all time, globally, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part II ($1.34 billion) remains the WB’s highest-grossing film globally. .

Gerwig is now the female director with the highest-grossing film at the domestic box office, surpassing Jennifer Lee, co-director of Frozen II.

Barbie will be released digitally for purchase on September 5. After that, it will be available to stream, and that should be on Max this fall.

Given the huge success of Barbie, a sequel seems likely, but it’s not yet confirmed (despite media reports). However, the company Mattel, maker of Barbie, is moving forward with movies based on some of its other famous toy properties, including Hot Wheels.
