It’s been an exciting two weeks for BattleBit Remastered, both in good and bad form. Following its release in Early Access on June 15, the game currently sits at number three on Steam’s best seller charts in the United States.
Unfortunately, the game suffered several DDoS attacks in its first two weeks, which the developer addresses in a blog post on Steam. In the first week, BattleBit Remastered was hit with “a significant number of DDoS attacks”, sometimes throughout the day, but thanks to some good planning by its creator, “no major issues arose”.
Then, in the second week, the same group of hackers discovered a weak point in the firewall and started attacking the servers they wanted. “They also started DDoSing the servers the content creators were on to inflict as much damage as possible on BattleBit’s reputation,” the developer says: “As a result of these attacks on our game servers, our server scheduling system also failed (eg, 900 people in queue, etc.), which significantly affected our development.”
With the firewall now fixed, the team is looking to the future and says they plan to reduce cheating in BattleBit Remastered by hiring a team that specializes in detecting cheats and getting rid of those unscrupulous people who want to ruin the experience for everyone. Fans can also expect to see new weapons, gadgets, maps, and remakes of existing maps, as well as additional game modes and quality of life improvements.
“We couldn’t be more grateful for the overwhelming reception BattleBit Remastered has had,” said the developer. “Early Access is just the beginning, with your help we will continue to improve, expand and refine the experience you have in front of you today.”
