Battlefield 2042 announces its season 2 with release date and details, will it change the game for the better at last?

DICE has this week announced Season 2 of Battlefield 2042, titled “Master of ArmsIt will be available from August 30, and as expected, it will be accompanied by a battle pass that includes free cosmetics and others reserved for the optional paid version. Most notably, we now have a good perspective of the contents that debut in this update and that will accompany us for the next ~3 months attending to the development of T1.

More specifically, we talk about all this material.

  • The Map stranded, located in a dry lake in Panama; keeps “a dark secret” among its closed and protected warehouses.
  • Three new weapons: the AM40 assault rifle, the PF51 secondary weapon (this one has an extended magazine to deal with multiple opponents), and the Avancys super mobile LMG.
  • Two new vehicles: the Polaris RZR, which features a mechanic to repel missiles; and the EBLC-RAM heavy duty off-roader.
  • A newcomer tool: the concussion grenade.
  • A new specialist: Support character Charlie Crawford. A former British arms dealer capable of deploying on demand a static machine gun (the Mounted Vulcan) with a ballistic shield, which can be used by any soldier. He also returns ammo and knickknacks to allies he revives.

Apart from this, it is also important to clarify that the Battlefield Portal mode —which is a celebrated experience editor full of content from the modern and past eras of the franchise— will be renewed with never-before-seen featured games, plus some created by the community, and even with tools (not detailed, for now) to shape a Conquest custom games even deeper than before. Interestingly, those responsible have also taken the initiative to “copy” content from BF Portal in the main modes block: All-Out Warfare, which covers Conquest and Assault in BF 2042.

Specifically, it will be possible to unlock some weapons from BF 1942, BF Bad Company 2 and BF 3 in those modes through a new feature called assignments. In the absence of knowing the official translation into Spanish, they could be understood as an adaptation of the “season challenges“that we see in many other current games as a service and that when completed, take the turn reward to our inventory. In addition to recover classic weapons of the titles we’ve already specified (the first objectives of the season will get us the M60E4 and M16A3 from BF3) will also give access to content from the previous season, such as the specialist Ewelina Lis. Hopefully we’ll have more such goals as T2 progresses.

If you’ve been keeping an eye on Battlefield 2042 news, you’ll know that in the last week fans have received confirmation that the third season of content will bring back the traditional class structure for Specialists; one of the many measures that will help alleviate the evident balance problems that the game had at its premiere. Unfortunately, Season 2 won’t (that we know of, at least) have any changes of that suit; which means that, broadly speaking, the games will be developed with the same “fixes” that we have right now, except for the most likely balance adjustments that arrive in parallel to the next patch. A transitory stage that will have to happen before, hopefully, BF 2042 rises from the ashes like the phoenix.

Battlefield 2042 reduces the number of maximum players in part of the game, losing the synonym of "massive"

Electronic Arts and DICE have been experimenting with the direction of this franchise for some time: neither the mode battle royale Battlefield V Firestorm took off on time, neither the mode hero sand of Hazard Zone has finished jelling among the fans – it is a rather niche series, whose followers have very specific expectations for what this should be milsim. As the development of the game continues, those responsible restore that same traditional vision shared by the fans. As a reminder, in the past the Swedish studio has also been forced to redirect post-launch support for titles like Star Wars Battlefront 2, so this kind of news has become little more than a ritual for the community.
