Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed that Beetlejuice 2 is in development during its presentation on Tuesday at CinemaCon.

Beetlejuice 2 is in development. Warner Bros. has announced that the long-gestating sequel is in development, though this follows months of rumors that the sequel was finally on the right track.

According to Screen Rant, Warner Bros. made the announcement during the studio’s panel at CinemaCon, though not much was announced beyond confirmation that a sequel is in development. It is not clear if michael keaton he will return to the role, although it seems likely, given his interest in doing so in the past. He also hasn’t had a problem revisiting classic Tim Burton characters, as seen in his return as Batman for the upcoming The Flash movie.

There have been rumors about the casting of the film. It was previously reported in March that Wednesday star Jenna Ortega was being eyed for a major role in the film. Stranger Things star Sadie Sink had been open to playing the same role before turning it down, according to rumors. It was also reported that Keaton was expected to return and Burton was also expected to return to the director’s chair.

Last fall, Burton admitted that he was working on a potential plan for Beetlejuice 2, but he was still under no illusions about the sequel actually seeing the light of day. That’s to be expected, since he’s been contemplating making a sequel ever since the original movie came out.

At one point, he was planning a follow-up movie called Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. Different writers have also joined in to try to help continue the story in subsequent years, but the project never made it out of development hell.
