Infinity Ward talks new details for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
A little more than a month after the expected launch, Infinity Ward has shared new details of the next title as part of its Call of Duty Next event. In it, players were able to take a look at the new multiplayer maps, a few customization options and, unsurprisingly, the game modes.
With regard to the latter, the fans were able to realize that among them was the return of cooperative mode Special Ops. At this point, it’s important to remember that the game has been including a unique mode that players can jump into if they need a break from the cinematic campaEsports Extrasor get out of the stresses of multiplayer. And, now that the Moder Warfare series has more serious overtones, the developers took advantage of the event to inform that they intend to keep it in its third mode -linked to the campaign-.
As you could read earlier, Special Ops was announced as a third mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 within Call of Duty Next. The studio did not elaborate on this, however, this was great news for multiplayer fans. Likewise, Infinity War communication director Stephanie Snowden gave a brief explanation about the mode, making it clear that the cooperative mode will be focused on two players, with an asymmetrical desEsports Extrasthat could show both a player on the ground, as well as the second providing air support. But, so far, the director commented that it was the most relevant thing about the return of the mode. Although, of course, she hinted that there would be an in-depth analysis of Special Ops later, which leaves users wondering what other new features it will have.
For its part, the official Call of Duty website has not brought much additional information either, except for indirectly referring to the way in which this mode could fit into the new Modern Warfare universe. In fact, the blog post mocked that Special Ops would continue the main narrative after players completed the campaign. and, in addition, it would task two-player teams with exploring “large-scale hot spots.”
After the first Nazi Zombies mode in 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War, the developers of the saga have made a habit of including this third mode, which suddenly became popular with fans. The best example of this is precisely Call of Duty Zombies, since it has included an iteration in ten titles, since World at War, with the Call of Duty titles from Sledgehammer and Treyarch being the ones that have included the mode the most times, while, instead, Infinity Ward has only included it in the 2016 version of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Somehow, the addition of Special Ops to Modern Warfare 2 came as no surprise to those who have followed the series closely for a long time, as this “third mode” has been a staple within Modern Warfare games since 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. What’s more, in its original iterations, the mode tasked two players with completing a series of challenges with very specific objectives during a set amount of time. So it is that the 2019 reboot of the Modern Warfare universe brought with it additional narrative elements, having picked up the end of the campaEsports Extrasand given the difficult task of stopping Al-Watala’s attempts to breach Verdansk with its new leader, Khaled Al- Asad.
At the moment there is no more information about the Special Ops, but it is likely that Infinity Ward has an ace up his sleeve.
