Call of Duty MW2 and Warzone 2: what we have learned and what you had missed

The Call of Duty Next event of 2022 has left us with the announcement of the multiplayer mode of Modern Warfare 2 and with a revitalized Warzone 2.0: whether you are more competitive or battle royale, this year you have shots for all tastes… more united than ever .

We were not prepared for the tremendous amount of material that Call of Duty fans are going to have this year, or so I thought after reading the huge press release that arrived in the mail from Esports Extras in preparation for the CoD Next event. For a publisher the size of Activision to have aspirations in the style of the transmedia format, cross-experience and simultaneous development is nothing new at all (just a few days ago we saw something similar with Assassin’s Creed, without going any further) but if you wanted to To represent the real weight of having Modern Warfare II 2022, Warzone 2.0 and its mobile compatibility almost at the same time, I would have to write in capital letters, bold and with the font size 18. Two superlative content blocks  interconnected with each other through a single engine and, in the case of the desktop versions, a single anti-cheat system.

What those responsible define as “the new generation of call of duty“It has improved graphics (obviously), new mechanics, a new anti-cheat system in the desktop versions, modes for all tastes and you can stay hooked both at home and on the go through your phone. Sound good? Yes And now that the Call of Duty Next event has happened, it’s time to kick back a bit and recount all the details—new game modes, new features, and generation-defining traits. of CoD planned for this year.

The result, I tell you, is promising to say the least: Infinity Ward has been able to renew itself in the right direction, which is to expand its sandbox in an flexible, non-intrusive; with an improved and unified technical section, and even a Warzone that, far from being satisfied with imitating its peers in the battle royale genre, has decided to go its own way and go by the name of basically all the massive shooters. It will take a little longer to release than MW2, but it will do so with renewed ambitions on all fronts: new map, new AI, new Gulag, new mode. What is said soon?

The new technical deployment of CoD

In pursuit of achieving that unified experience that we talked about above, Activision wants to support all its shooters this year’s military with the same flag: an improved version of the graphics engine which released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019). For the more knowledgeable, it would be something like IW Engine 9.0, or 2.0 if we consider the rebuilt version from three years ago as a new starting point for the franchise. Its authors boast new features for the MW2 campaign, such as a new physics-based rendering method for water—we’ll come back to this later—as well as new streams for passing geometry to the GPU, which should be noticeable during benchmarks; global volumetric illumination, and photogrammetry improvements. Likewise, we will notice an advance in the locomotion of the characters, and even in the AI behaviors: NPCs will react more naturally to our actions, enemies will develop new behavior patterns, and allies will take optimal positions. It looks like Warzone 2.0 will benefit from these improvements, too.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2022): Call of Duty MW2 and Warzone 2: what we have learned and what you had missed

We’ve been hearing rumors about DMZ mode for Warzone 2 for some time. All of this falls within what we would call the “honeymoon effect” which is discovering the game, marveling at its graphics. But in this article we have a strong interest in competitive multiplayer, and there we may be more interested in talking about Ricochet anti-cheat system. That already exercised in the previous Warzone, so you will already be very familiar with how effective it is when it comes to showing the red card to the masses. For this occasion, from Activision they promise that the kernel-level driver will be available from day one in both MW2 PvP and Warzone 2.0, accompanied by certain improvements that (reasonably) have not been specified. Perhaps with the idea of not making it easy for the manufacturers of “little programs” to take advantage of others. It remains to be seen how this updated and reinforced anti-cheat behaves, but for now we will settle for knowing that those responsible are excited enough about it to point to this point as one of the launch’s muscles, also calling it the most advanced in franchise history.

News in the multiplayer of MW2 (and its beta)

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2022) PC

I have a feeling Infinity Ward has been thinking very seriously about how Call of Duty should evolve as a franchise. I mean, if you remember how Treyarch brought up jetpacks in Black Ops 3, a lot of fans found that mechanic a bit off. Not in vain, CoD has been occupying a privileged position in the world of multiplayer shooters for decades, so its fans have specific ideas about what each of its titles should be To avoid a feeling of stagnation (more pronounced than the series implicitly, I say) the developers have implemented what in my opinion will be an “all or nothing” for the legacy of the game: a set of new actions that should feel perfectly natural within the sandbox, taking it, hopefully, to a level more agile and modern (offhand joke). To be specific, I’m talking about things like being able to hang from a ledge and shoot from there; or new aquatic navigation techniques such as the dolphin dive. That last one is a technicality, by the way: you can look it up on the internet.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2022) PC

Underwater combat is coming stronger than ever with new mechanicsIf things pan out, and so far it looks like they will, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer will be headed in the right direction —With feet on the ground, but more flexibility than ever. It’s more vertical, too; In part that’s due to the maneuvers just described, but the mapping desEsports Extrasdeserves a piece of the limelight because it will include underwater caverns (they look more interesting than in the past, by all accounts) and floors through which they can be activated. some new devices. That they are categorized as lethal or tactical is something that escapes me, yes. Personally, I would find the possibility of dying to something I don’t see troubling. We will have to wait until the beta to see first-hand if the matter clicks or not. On the other hand, vehicles they come for their piece of the pie along with amphibious tactics. IW will offer dynamism, more realistic destruction effects, and improved combat with the ability to aim by sticking your body out of windows or the roof. Vanguard already did a pretty decent job of this, so it would be a surprise if MW2 didn’t deliver.

Apart from that, at the level of modes and functionalities, it is worth highlighting the system of gunsmith 2.0, designed to maintain or exceed the usual depth while focusing on giving us a faster response in the weapon customization menu. The MW2 multiplayer announcement trailer isn’t very self explanatory, but it does at least hint at a new UI with what appear to be dropdown menus for each weapon part. From my humble perspective, I would appreciate seeing something similar to the quick menu in Battlefield 2042 in the future: a button to overlay the weapon on the screen and make adjustments on the fly. We will be able to test it throughout the multiplayer, some new or remodeled game configurations.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2022)

  • There is a new cooperative experience for two players. This year’s is called Special Ops, and it takes place on larger, more open battlefields than ever before.
  • As part of post-launch support, a mode called Raids (“Incursions” in Spanish) will arrive: a 3 vs. 3 devoted to communication and execution as a team. In the absence of more information, it is expected to be an evolution of the veteran Gunfight (Shooting) that premiered at MW 2019.
  • There is at least one new playlist that is played with the third person camera.

Numerous details about the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II open beta have been revealed as well. Visit the link above for more information on the matter. As a reminder, this year’s MW2 launches Friday, October 28 on PC via Battle.net and Steam, and on PS4, PS5, XONE, and XSX|S. Those who pre-order the game will get access to the campaEsports Extrasone week in advance along with the multiplayer beta.

How is CoD Warzone 2.0?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2022) PC

It seems not, but it has rained a lot since the Call of Duty saga wanted its piece of the cake with the battle royale. Back in 2018, Black Ops 4 was clear that if it was necessary to nip the campaEsports Extrasin the bud to have BR, it was done without a problem. Later, the improved and expanded version of CoD Warzone “went on its own” as a stoic, unshakeable free-to-play game. It’s not uncommon for the Infinity Ward team to see it more as a plataform, so it has ended up evolving into a version 2.0 that has been going strong (as has been said for months). “The most ambitious release in CoD history,” as the North American publisher calls it, is set in a fictional West Asia-based region called Al-Mazrah; which will feature its own faction of AI-controlled enemies – a reminder that this is one of the points where the saga wants to evolve with this installment – as well as carefully designed scenarios to facilitate close, face-to-face combat. I understand that this is what has led its authors to rethink the progression of the ring: instead of just one, we will now find several that redefine the last minutes of each game.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2022)

The new AI will also make its first steps in Warzone, in addition to the campaignThat all sounds great, but I suspect Call of Duty die-hards will be especially excited to learn a couple of additional details: the first is what the developers call gulag 2.0. In case you didn’t play the original Warzone, it’s a second-chance mechanic that allows disqualified players to get back into the match if they survive a thunderous duel against each other, before the eyes of their peers. The updated version of this functionality is played in 2 vs. 2 and allows you to interact with the jailer himself (no, not the one in WoW). Another important point is the confirmation of DMZ, a 100% new game mode that we have been reading rumors about on the internet for months. From what little we know, it could well be designed to stand up to another multiplayer titan like Escape from Tarkov. It will be available from day one, so we won’t have to wait long to get down to work.

When it comes to launch, we’ve got your back: Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 is expected to be available on November 16 on PC via Battle.net and Steam, as well as PS4, PS5, XONE and XSX consoles. |S maintaining the usual free-to-play format. Additionally, it will also extend its reach to mobile devices.
