CoD Warzone 2 changes backpacks and armor plates in Season 2 – This shows the dilemma in which the developers are stuck

Call of Duty Warzone 2 has received mixed feedback since release. The loot and armor plate system in particular were the focus of criticism. Now the developers have announced the role backwards – Warzone 2 should be more like its predecessor again.

What was criticized? As early as the announcement at the CoD: Next Event last September, many of the invited content creators expressed doubts about the systems of CoD: Warzone 2. They particularly criticized three changes compared to the old Warzone.

  1. loot – With Warzone 2, the loot system in Battle Royale has been revised. Apart from the supply boxes, loot no longer pops on the ground. Players must search backpacks and bags to get the best items. All of this takes time and slows down gameplay.
  2. armor plates – In Verdansk or Caldera, players had 3 armor plates by default. In the new Warzone, however, players only start the battle with 2 plates. With a bit of luck you can find a vest that allows you to equip 3 armor plates. On the other hand, if you don’t find a vest, you’re at a disadvantage.
  3. gulag – In Warzone 2, the developers switched the Gulag from a 1 vs. 1 match to a 2 vs. 2 match. They expected more dynamics in the battles. At the same time, this mode should familiarize players with proximity chat.

Even a few months after the release of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, criticism from the community continues. Apparently, this is also reflected in the numbers: Warzone 2 has already lost many players and some streamers are also turning away.

With Season 2, the developers also want to screw on the weapon balance. If you want to level up a new weapon now, then we have 3 tips for you:

CoD Warzone 2 – 3 tips on how to level up your weapons quickly

Developers respond to criticism, promising many changes

What did the developers announce? In a post on the CoD community blog, the developers discuss all of the changes they are planning for Season 2. In addition to technical updates and bug fixes, there should also be numerous gameplay changes. It remains to be seen how exactly they will implement these changes in the end, but a clear trend can already be seen: Warzone 2 should become more like Warzone 1 again.

Backpacks will be abolished and loot should behave the same way as in Warzone 1. Panniers and eliminated players will distribute their loot on the floor in the future. Players should spend less time organizing their inventory.

The changes aim to speed up gameplay. It is also intended to prevent players from hoarding multiple field gear and revives.

The Gulag returns to the well-known 1 vs. 1 mode. While some players cheer because of this, others are disappointed. The 2 against 2 mode could be frustrating, but it also provided unique moments. What is certain is that Warzone 2 loses a unique selling point with this change.

The same applies to the armor plates. In Season 2, each player starts with a 3-piece armor plate vest by default. So you don’t have to look for an upgrade anymore in the future. This makes battles fairer. However, this also means that another tactical element is lost.

Have the developers mentioned any other changes? Yes! Among other things, the developers are talking about changes to the weapon balance. With the new season there should also be new meta weapons. The same applies to the perks, which you will be able to choose freely in the future. The currently strongest perk is weakened.

The developers are also planning changes to movement, buy stations and loadouts. The changes aim to make battles more exciting. They also want to make it easier for you to re-enter after a victory in the Gulag.

Warzone 2 threatens to lose its own identity

Why might the changes become a problem? The developers are in a quandary: the changes to the BR mentioned are clearly aimed at winning back players who do not like the Warzone 2 systems.

At the same time, these changes could also mean that Warzone 2 loses its own identity. The more systems the developers take over from the old Warzone, the less Warzone 2 appears as an independent game. You have to ask yourself whether, at the end of the day, the developers are scaring away more players with these changes than they can potentially win back.

It is questionable who wants the changes at all. Are streamers and content creators really representative of larger parts of the community? In any case, one thing is certain: a breath of fresh air will come to Al Mazrah. New content and appropriate maintenance are good for every service game. The changes with Season 1 and Season 1: Reloaded were the first real step.
