In an interview with ET Online, Chris Pratt confirmed that a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie is in the works after negotiations with the WGA.
Pratt hinted that a sequel to “The Super Mario Bros.” is “next”. He said: “We’re in the middle of this writers’ strike, and so everything has been paused and put on hold for the right reasons.” Pratt added: “I really support the WGA and our writers. When the negotiations are complete and the writers feel comfortable moving forward, then it will be time to start talking about what’s next for that.“.
“It really amazes me how successful that movie has been. I mean, I was hoping people would love it in the same way that I was excited about it, but it’s truly multi-generational all over the world. People love her. They love Mario. It’s a really fun, funny, cute, touching movie and, gosh, I can’t believe I’m a part of it.“.
The film, based on the iconic Nintendo video games, follows the origin story of brothers Mario and Luigi. The original film has been hugely successful, grossing $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office and becoming the third-highest-grossing animated film of 2023. The sequel will feature the same voice cast, including Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day , Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen and Fred Armisen.
