Brutal, stylish and damn cool – that’s exactly what the Cyberpunk 2077 anime promises Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to become. In the latest trailer, this time from the Japanese animation team at Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill, Promare) themselves, we get another look at some of the main characters and the impressive animations of the series. So far, the trailer is only available in Japanese with English subtitles, which some anime fans should definitely welcome.
This is what Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is all about: Although the anime is set in the same world as Cyberpunk 2077, it focuses on new characters. Above all, the “Street Kid” David, who wants to prove himself as a freshly minted edge runner, a kind of illegal mercenary.
While the exact plot is yet to be revealed, the trailer seems to at least hint that David has lost his mother and is now undergoing cyber implants to keep up in the brutal world of Night City.
Together with a crew consisting of the mercenaries Maine, Dorio, Kiwi, Pilar, Rebecca and Lucy, the team has to deal with one of the most powerful mega-corporations in the world.
