The discussion about breakable weapons in Zelda BotW is not new. On the contrary: Our sticks or paddles broke in the first Dead Island and it’s no different in the sequel Dead Island 2. The creators are now explaining in detail why this is so – and why it fits perfectly.
Yes, in Dead Island 2 the melee weapons break again and there are good reasons for that
That’s what it’s about: Dead Island 2 emerges from oblivion and is featured in several new trailers and interviews. In one of them, DesEsports ExtrasDirector Adam Duckett from Dambuster Studios talks about destructible weapons and explains why they break.
Here you can see one of the two new trailers:
Dead Island 2 – The long-awaited zombie game is back with a gameplay trailer
There must be a change! The rule is very simple: firearms need ammunition that can run empty and melee weapons don’t last forever, they break at some point. This should help, among other things, to encourage players to try it out.
“We’re generous with that. We want players to explore the full arsenal of weapons.”
There are “so many great mods, so many perks and so many other things” in Dead Island 2 that should simply be tried out. The fact that your favorite club breaks at some point can, for example, help you to try the hammer or the katana.
No lack of weapons: In addition, there should be no need in Dead Island 2, so that you usually never have to stand there without weapons. You each have eight active slots that you can switch through and another eight reserve weapons in hand. In theory, you should always be able to have 16 weapons with you.
Appropriate weapons for all opponents: In Dead Island 2 you can expect various enemy types, some of which can be resistant to certain types of damage. According to the desEsports Extrasdirector, this can always be seen. The same applies to the constitution in which your weapons are located.
If the zombie doesn’t take any damage (e.g. because you attack him with fire, but he used to be a fireman and is still wearing the appropriate protective clothing), this should always be recognizable. If no body parts fall off and the clothes remain intact, you should reconsider your approach.
“We want you to be able to turn off the HUD and still know everything that’s going on around you. […] We want you to be able to tell how much health your opponent has, how injured they are, how worn out your weapon is, and how long you’ve been in combat… just by looking around.”
When is Dead Island 2 coming? After the game has been on the back burner for many years and changed development studios several times, things are looking pretty good again. The current plan is to release the zombie hunt in February 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PC.
How do you find destructible weapons in Dead Island 2? Do you see it in a certain way in general or does the game and genre make a difference?
