Dead Island 2 will be released for “another platform” next year
Much was expected for the launch of Dead Island 2, we were on hold for almost a decade, but the game finally released earlier this year and proved to be a critical and commercial success. In May, it was revealed that the action RPG had sold over 2 million units worldwide, and interestingly enough, Embracer Group, publisher’s parent company deepsilver, he expects those sales to pick up speed next year when the game launches for another platform.
Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors confirmed about another release during the company’s recent quarterly earnings call (via VGC), where, after noting that Dead Island 2 continues to meet expectations in the months following its release, adding that the game will be released for “another platform” in the coming year, which will help drive sales even further.
“I think Dead Island had a really strong release window, then we’ve been seeing more of a normal performance, in line with expectations. What we’re looking forward to now is obviously promotions, but mainly the addition of new content, so there’s a significant amount of content for the game in the year, which would also improve sales of the base game.
Then looking a year ahead, we would have a launch on another platform that will also drive multiple sales.”
Interestingly, Wingefors did not specify which platform the game will be coming to next year, leading to some speculation. It could have referred to a release on Nintendo Switch, which is the only current platform where the game has not arrived.
Dead Island 2 is available for Xbox One, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. You can read our review at this link.
