Denuvo will now be available on Nintendo Switch to prevent it from being emulated on PC
Denuvo, developer of Iderto, has announced that its suite of game protection software is now available for Nintendo Switch developers, including software specifically designed to prevent Nintendo Switch games from running on PC emulators.
Iderto made the announcement today, stating that his tools can be accessed through the Nintendo Developer Portal for existing and new games in development. The first tool offered is Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection, which helps prevent games from launching on emulators.
“By blocking unauthorized emulations on PC, studios can increase their revenue during the game’s release window, which is the most important period for monetization,” says Iderto. “Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection will ensure that anyone wanting to play the game will have to purchase a legitimate copy“.
Denuvo has long been blamed for performance issues in supported games, especially on PC. While Iderto has denied that his security software affects game performance, he felt the need to emphasize this again during the announcement in an attempt to allay fears developers already dealing with outdated hardware limitations might have. .
“As with all other Denuvo solutions, the technology integrates seamlessly into the build toolchain without affecting the gameplay experience,” continues Iderto. “It then allows checks to be embedded in the code, which crashes the game on emulators.”
There’s no indication yet as to when, or if, Nintendo Switch developers will embrace the tools Denuvo offers (for a cost), but it wouldn’t be surprising given the proliferation of the hacking and emulation scene surrounding the console.
