And yet, this literary saga has met with enormous success among young people with more than 180 million copies of the five novels published by its author, Rick Riordan. Compared to the work of JK Rowling and her more than 500 million books sold, it’s “nothing”, but it still remains a huge hit. A sixth book will also be released on September 26, 2023, but it will only be in English for the time being.

This universe will be transposed to the small screen with the series Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. The first trailer, which announces something epic, on the scale of the project and the target audience, deals with Greek gods and mythical creatures, the main hero being a demigod, son of Poseidon. “The adventures of a modern 12-year-old demigod, Percy Jackson, who has just accepted his new supernatural powers when the powerful Zeus accuses him of stealing his Lightning Bolt. Percy will have to search for him throughout the United States in order to restore order in Olympus. (official synopsis).

With this series, Disney+ is therefore betting quite big. The two films Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson: Sea of ​​Monsters hardly moved the crowds, in addition to receiving lukewarm reviews, which prevented any attempt at a third feature film. Fans, as well as the author, were disappointed by the liberties taken. So of course, at least Disney+ doesn’t need to bring people to the cinema, but the platform is surely expecting a much warmer return.

Another hit show returns for Halloween

In the next new releases for October 2023, Disney+ will also bring back a series very popular in the 90s: Goosebumps. Goosebumps, among our Anglo-Saxon friends, is a saga of novels which was a hit and which therefore had the right to be adapted for television. As with Percy Jackson, we follow different young boys and girls involved in horrific and fantastic stories. Episodes which are all independent, and which take care not to go too far so as not to frighten their target.

“Goosebumps plunges viewers into a world full of mystery and suspense: five high school students embark on a terrible investigation full of twists and turns in order to understand the circumstances of the tragic death, thirty years earlier, of a teenager, and discover passing the heavy secrets of their parents” Disney+ said in a press release.
