dredge is the best we have this 2023, and it

It may not make as much noise as a triple-A release, but Dredge has become one of the most pleasant surprises so far in 2023. In case you didn’t know, it’s a most unusual fishing game and one that, strangely, it has touches of lovecraftian horror. On Steam it has proven to have what it takes to win over fans, with 96% positive user reviews out of over 9,100 opinions. And there will be more: its authors have shared a roadmap.

So, over the next few months Dredge will receive three content updates, which are logically free; further a paid DLC named Ironhaven after the eponymous corporation that appears in the game’s universe. According to a publication on the subject on the PlayStation blog, the downloadable will bring us new characters, equipment to create, new fish to catch; and of course, new mysteries to solve about the town.

Beyond that, we have:

  • Expanded features for the map, from this month of May. It allows us to place colored icons on the map, with which to identify mysteries, dangers and anything else that is useful for us to remember.
  • Also in summer we will receive new game modes: one of them is the passive, which removes the aggressiveness factor of the monsters that attack fishing boats regularly; and the other is photo mode. The latter goes hand in hand with an NPC who teaches us to use the camera and photograph fish.
  • In the third quarter we will have options for customize boats and change their paint and their flags. It will be necessary to unlock the patterns somehow, but we will have to wait a bit for details.

The Ironhaven DLC doesn’t arrive until later this year, so in the meantime, we’ll focus on the rest of the news. At Esports Extras, our comrade José Ángel Mateo analyzed Dredge for what it is: a pleasant indie surprise that you should have on your radar, at least.
