E3 is over – the most important video game fair will not take place in 2023
E3 will not take place this year.
After more and more publishers canceled their appearance at E3 2023 in the past few days and speculation circulated that the fair would end soon, it is now a sad certainty: The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 for short), the world’s most important event for video games, will take place in not take place this year.
Where did the message come from? A public statement from the ESA as the organizer is not yet available. However, as the Esports Extrassite reports with reference to two internal sources, an e-mail is said to have reached the staff on Thursday regarding the cancellation.
Reasons for canceling E3
The said email, which Esports Extrashas seen, also states the reason for the cancellation of E3:
E3 remains a popular event and brand. (…) However, this year’s event failed to generate the interest needed to be held in a way that reflected the size, strength and influence of the gaming industry.

E3 was scheduled to take place from April 13th to 16th this year. June will take place in Los Angeles for the first time since 2019, after the fair had to pause three years in a row due to the pandemic.
Hardly any publisher support for E3: The fact that the cancellation is not unexpected is due to numerous cancellations by major publishers, including Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony. Most recently, Ubisoft, SEGA and Devolver Digital also confirmed their absence.
Several summer events will replace E3
The end of E3 once again shifts the focus to live events, such as the one taking place on June 8th Summer Game Festhosted by host Geoff Keighley since 2020 and has grown in popularity over the years.
In addition, Microsoft has already confirmed their summer showcase with, among other things, new information about Starfield for June 11th. Ubisoft is also hosting its own live event on June 12th and will most likely reveal more about the future of Assassin’s Creed.
