The competition between Microsoft and Sony hasn’t been as hotly debated for years as it was last time on the subject Call of Duty. In memory of: Microsoft is working on one right now Acquisition of Activision Blizzard. As a result, some big games will become exclusive to the Xbox and the personal computer appear, PS5-Players look into the tube.
The Call of Duty brand also belongs to Activision and is therefore part of the deal. At the same time, the shooter series is on the Playstation extremely popular and Sony would of course like to offer them on their own platform in the future. While for the upcoming parts yet applicable agreements applythe future of the series is open from 2024.
Battlefield could benefit from Xbox exclusivity
The dispute over the franchise could also affect other brands. Andrew Wilsonthe CEO of EA sees a chance for the in-house in a possible exclusivity of the industry leader battle field-Row. At a Goldman Sachs event he said:
“In a world where there are questions about the future of Call of Duty and what platforms it will or will not be on, being platform agnostic and being completely cross-platform with Battlefield is a tremendous opportunity.”
His logic is therefore that players who no longer have access to “Call of Duty” on their favorite platform will inevitably be able to other alternatives evade. “Battlefield” would offer itself here as a platform-independent brand.
There was also competition between “Call of Duty” and “Battlefield” for a long time. After the failed start of Battlefield 2042 is currently clearly the brand of Activision in front. Significantly bigger and more dangerous are titles like Fortnite or Apex Legends. The latter is also a platform-independent one EA-Brand. The topic will probably accompany the industry for a while.
