Elden Ring DLC: clues to new areas discovered, all rumors at a glance
What expansions could we possibly expect in Elden Ring?
Elden Ring is a game that can be really engaging and addicting. Many fans have fought their way through the intermediate country for 70 to 150 hours in their first run and can hardly break away from it after the credits. The question then is: what now? The community is therefore already diligently on the lookout for clues to DLCs and has some speculations ready. We summarize for you.
What’s the current status of Elden Ring DLCs?
The most important things first: As of today (May 2022), From Software not official commented on the DLC. So it remains to be seen whether more content is actually being worked on or not.
So far, every Souls-like (apart from Sekiro) has received additional DLCs after release. Therefore, it is very likely that Elden Ring will receive some as well. If the content so far is any indication, then you should wrap up warm. The DLCs are known to be even more difficult than the main game.
Current speculation
It’s all about this: Since there is no official information yet, we have no choice but to think about what the DLCs could look like. The community speculates using the lore and discoveries made out of bounds.
An overview of all speculations:
1. Multiplayer Coliseum?
This was discovered: Dataminer and modder Lance McDonald has made the first exciting discovery in an area that is normally not accessible to us in the game. There is a distinctive Great Wall in Limgrave, the gates of which remain locked. In a YouTube video, the modder shows what’s inside: an impressive arena that is reminiscent of real coliseums with its spectator tiers. Corridors and elevators are also designed in the building.
Incidentally, there is also a large fortress in the Caelid region that we cannot enter. Here you can watch the video about it:

These are the guesses: McDonald simply names his find in the video title “probably DLC thing”. We’re definitely dealing with a battle arena here. The only question is who could fight against whom here. It would be possible that a new boss awaits us here, but also that it is a new multiplayer feature. Dark Souls 3 also received arena expansions.

Of course, it is also possible that this is deleted content and that a boss fight that should have taken place in the arena was simply removed from the final game.
2. Square in the center of the towers
This was discovered: One of our most important milestones in the Elden Ring main story is to reach the Divine Towers, which become accessible to us after defeating big bosses. On the map these are arranged around a cloud. This rankled the community. The spot is in the middle of the sea, so we can’t explore it – actually.

Recently a fan found a glitch that allows us to ride Stormwind through the air. Streamer Elajjaz was actually trying out the new strategies this would allow in speedruns when, out of curiosity, he rode to the spot and spotted a strange square shadow in the middle of the towers, in the middle of the sea. However, there is nothing more there. Jokes like “Atlantis confirmed” and “Bermuda square” are made in the chat.

These are the guesses: FromSoftware uses game worlds with a preference for environmental storytelling. In the intermediate land we find many references to the lore. So that the important towers are grouped around the cloud looks suspicious.
The square could indicate that a DLC – of whatever kind – is being created here. But it could also be cut content again. The streamer’s statements like “Yo, Miyazaki, where’s the DLC you’re hiding from us? Yes, I see you’re planning something over there” can be seen with a wink.
3. Possible story approaches
Of course, the community also thinks about where in the lore a story DLC could start and which characters could or should be involved. Two of the characters still seem particularly mysterious and “suspicious”.
Miquella
Gideon also talks about Miquella.
Malenia’s twin brother is an important character who is mentioned frequently, but only appears in the game as a corpse in a cocoon, of which we can only see an arm hanging out. Miquella was kidnapped, murdered and placed in this shell by the blood lord Mohg with the plan to resurrect him and start a new dynasty with him.
If we talk to Gideon Ofnir after the boss fight against Mohg, who explains the background story of the intermediate land, he also says that Miquella is a big mystery for him. He also wonders if it wouldn’t be safer to destroy the cocoon. So far there is no way to do this in the game.

The dataminer Garden of Eyes also presents unused content in a video that could indicate an expansion of the story. However, this should be taken with a grain of salt, as the day before April Fools’ Day, the fan presented a video about Elden Ring in which he wasn’t completely honest.
Marika

Raised to the status of a goddess, Queen Marika is the central figure in the in-between and also the center of the Esports Extrasntic mind map created by lore expert Vaatividya. Nonetheless, like her motives, she remains very mysterious. Fans are speculating if we could get more information about them in a DLC.
4. New areas
On October 15th, a new patch for Elden Ring was released, focused on balancing and bug fixes. However, a dataminer made another discovery:

Lance McDonald writes in a tweet that the update contains notes on two new maps that do not exist anywhere in the game data. These could be DLC areas that are currently not accessible. Of course, this encourages speculation as to whether an expansion will be announced soon. However, it could also be that we will never see these areas in the game.
