A new patch for Elden Ring has recently been released, which brings with it a major innovation: ray tracing for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Balancing adjustments have also been made. However, gamers have now discovered changes that are not listed in the patch notes and with which they strongly disagree.

Fans are angry about a change

Reddit user Flint_Vorselon demonstrates the difference in a clip and writes:

Major bug in patch 1.09 affects spell/invocation damage. That needs to be fixed urgently.

In the video, the user explains that since the latest patch, spells and invocations no longer receive bonuses from buffs. The fan demonstrates this with the magic loop of flame in versions 1.08 and 1.09. In the older version, the spell without a buff deals 308 points of damage to an enemy. Combined with Shabriri’s howl, this makes a total of 385 points.

The Reddit user compares this with version 1.09, in which Shabriri’s howls bring no bonus. The damage value remains at 308 points. The fan also demonstrates the same effect with another buff, golden oath and another spell.

This change is not listed in the patch notes, which is why fans on Reddit assume it’s a bug. Many gamers are now through with the main game, but a first story DLC was announced at the end of February.

Not much is known about this yet, but FromSoftware’s expansions usually offer endgame content and are intended as an additional challenge for already high-level characters.

In the comments on the Reddit post, many fans agreeto have noticed a noticeable change. It is also discussed whether this is an unwanted side effect of other adjustments. Some users also joke that it’s time to switch to melee combat.

However, it is quite possible that FromSoftware will soon post a fix if the change was indeed unintentional.

Have you noticed any changes in your magic builds since the last patch and are you also hoping for a quick fix?
