Elden Ring will overtake Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 as the best-selling game of 2022 in the United States, according to an analyst

Can Elden Ring dethrone the almighty Call of Duty? In the United States, the Call of Duty saga is, every year, the most sold. almost every year the installment of CoD that year becomes the best-selling game.

But this could change in 2022. And against all odds, a game as “hardcore” as Elden Ring could end up as the best seller of the year (in the United States, remember).

Analyst Mat Piscatella from NPD Group has published his predictions for the video game market in 2022, and in the middle of the year, he ventures that Elden Ring will end 2022 as the best-selling premium (paid) game of the year in the United States.

If so, it would be the third time this has happened since 2009, which was when Call of Duty hit the “boom” with Modern Warfare 2 (the original).

There have only been two years where Call of Duty hasn’t been the best-selling game of the year. In 2013 with GTA V, and in 2018 with Red Dead Redemption 2.

Even in 2021, with the failed Call of Duty Vanguard, Activision’s saga took the top two spots (the second best-selling game of 2021 was Black Ops Cold War).

These are the best accessories you can buy if you already have a PlayStation 5 and want to get the most out of it.

Piscatella hopes that these are the 10 best-selling games of 2022 in the United Statesin the absence of surprises (and computer in alphabetical order):

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
  • Elden Ring
  • god of war ragnarok
  • Gotham Knights
  • Horizon: Forbidden West
  • LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
  • Madden NFL 23
  • NBA 2K23
  • Pokemon Legends Arceus
  • Pokemon Scarlet/Purple

The analyst also expects that Nintendo Switch is the best-selling console of the year, although not necessarily the most profitable (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S have higher prices and increases the so-called “dollar sales”). However, only Xbox Series will experience growth compared to 2021.

He also agrees with Ampere Analysis that the sector will decline in 2022. He expects combined spending on consoles, games and accessories to be $55.5 billion, down 8.7% from 2021.
