European Union delays deadline to decide on the acquisition of Activision Blizzard
The European Commission is again pushing back its April 25 deadline to decide on the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. As reported by Reuters, the regulator will now make its decision on May 22 in light of Microsoft’s most recent filings.
While the European Commission has not provided details about its latest decision to the public, it is seeking comment from rival companies as well as customers before its new May 22 deadline.
Earlier this month, the European Commission had originally set its tentative deadline for deciding the fate of the acquisition at April 25, stating that the magnitude of the potential acquisition of $69 billion means that regulatory bodies around the world they should not be in a hurry to make a decision.
More recently, Microsoft has been trying to show how pro-competitive it is by signing deals with various companies to bring Call of Duty to their respective platforms. A deal was signed with Nintendo, promising to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms with “full feature and content parity.”
