Awakening video series

Dune: Awakening is a mystery, but the developers are starting to work more on the marketing side to reveal what the game will actually be like. Funcom published a series of videos explaining some important points of the adaptation of the hit film, which in turn is inspired by a classic book by Frank Herbert.

The first point discussed was what makes the game an MMO. Joel Bylos, creative director, talked about how the large Overland map connects several smaller sandbox regions and allows different players to participate in social interaction that is different from other similar titles:

Then, the issue was brought up that the story of Dune: Awakening will be an alternative reality in relation to what we saw on the big screen. The change happens precisely in the mother of Paul Atreides, the famous Lisan Al-Gabi. Jessica Atreides, unlike the films, decides to obey Bene Geressit’s orders and conceives a daughter:

Léa Talbot, narrative director, highlights how the player’s spiritual journey is a fundamental part of the game experience:

And, of course, this wouldn’t be as immersive and fun if there wasn’t a robust character creation system, would it?

Dune: Awakening is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC (Steam). A release date has not yet been announced.

Dune: Awakening should appear at Gamescom

It’s worth remembering that Dune: Awakening recently entered its Persistent Closed Beta phase, giving access to the entire scope of the game, from the starting area of Hagga Basin to its end game in the Deep Desert. With Gamescom approaching in August, Funcom is preparing to reveal the full gameplay at the event.
