Changed timeline in BO6: CoD players hope for Black Ops 2 remake

Call of Duty players are hoping a Black Ops 2 remake is in the works after noticing major changes to the timeline ahead of Black Ops 6’s arrival.

Call of Duty fans can’t wait to get their hands on Black Ops 6, which not only introduces the revolutionary multi-directional movement, but also impacts the Black Ops timeline.

Speaking of which, when CharlieIntel was invited to Treyarch and was able to view the game’s timeline, Black Ops 2’s 2025 missions were missing. Only the 1989 flashback missions from Black Ops 2 were present.

Additionally, every Call of Duty: Black Ops game website now redirects to the Black Ops 6 page, with the exception of Black Ops 2.

This, along with the absence of BO2’s 2025 missions from the game’s timeline, has left players speculating and hoping that a Black Ops 2 remake is in the works.

Under CharlieIntel’s post regarding Black Ops game websites, the comments are filled with players hoping for a Black Ops 2 remake.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, a remake seems entirely possible considering we haven’t seen one since Modern Warfare Remastered in 2016. Instead, others believe it could herald Call of Duty 2025, which would be a sequel to Black Ops 2.

In the comments of CI’s post, one user made it clear that “MW3 takes place just before 2025“, and since the Modern Warfare and Black Ops universes are now connected, perhaps the developers will have to change the dates in Black Ops 2 to make everything make more sense on a canonical level.

So we’ll have to see what happens in the future, but for now the focus is on Black Ops 6, which clearly takes inspiration from its predecessors. We’ll likely learn more during Call of Duty Next, scheduled for August 2024.
