Discord is getting ready to launch in-app ads to help support game developers, and they should be arriving soon.

At the beginning of March 2024, Discord mentioned “ sponsored quests ”, or advertisements, which would be added to the platform to help “ support game developers » through the popular chat app.

Discord didn't initially share a release date, or even how they were going to integrate ads into Discord's overall design, other than mentioning that sponsored quests would be integrated in a ” elegant “.

A report from The Wall Street Journal claims that Discord's sponsored quests will land on the platform this week and will be displayed on the bottom left of the app.

Paid promotions come from video game creators and will give users gifts for completing in-game tasks while their friends watch on Discord “, said the WSJ.

Ads will be targeted to users based on their game play, age, and geographic location data, and they will appear in the lower left corner of users' screens », Also declared Peter Sellis, senior vice president of products at Discord, to the Wall Street Journal.

Those looking to complete Sponsored Quests must stream themselves completing a task on Discord with at least one friend watching the stream. Discord's first blog post about the feature states that users can opt out of seeing sponsored quests in the app if they don't want to take part in them.

Discord has not yet rolled out the sponsored quests feature in its app, but it will apparently launch this week.
