Last month, user inlifetroll shared this photo on the subreddit of Gen Vin writing : “I don’t watch the show but as I was driving by I saw this guy and I was wondering if anyone knew this actor’s name.”

The image corresponds to the production schedule for Season 2 of Gen V having started filming in May. Additionally, the Reddit community revealed that the actor in costume is Zach McGowanknown in particular for the series Shameless, Black Sails or The 100.

But what we didn’t know at the time was that McGowan’s new superhero, Dogknott, was emerging as one of the potential candidates to join the Seven in Season 4 of The Boys.

Another Reddit user then recently made the connection, sharing a screenshot of inlifetroll’s post with the description: “Based on a photo from the set of Gen V Season 2, it looks like Dogknott will appear.”

This would make a lot of sense, given that Dogknott’s appearance in The Boys was nothing more than a photo and a brief (and fairly explicit) description.

Her photo is shown in Episode 1 of Season 4, when Ashley introduces the Vought Supers to a series of potential new members who could join the Seven.

When Dogknott’s profile appears, A-Train intervenes, “I thought he ate a dog.” But The Deep (or the Fishman in French) responds, “At the restaurant. It changes everything.”

In addition to this anecdote, his profile shows a number of his acting credits, including the reality TV show Poundtown with Dogknottas well as the films Doggie’s Home And Doggie’s Home 2: Old Dog, New Tricks.

As for his special skills, we find in particular canine telepathy, cancer detection, super hearing, night vision as well as hatred of fireworks.

While it’s a hilarious aside, one might expect an actor of McGowan’s experience to normally have a more substantial role. We can therefore assume that this brief appearance was only a teaser for what awaits him in season 2 of Gen V.

The Reddit post prompted fans to speculate about its story arc, with one suggesting, “The guy is close to dogs to an uncomfortable degree but the joke is… he really, really likes dogs. Nothing sexual.”

Another replied, “It’s actually hilarious. Deep makes us assume it would be sexual, so it’s a subversion that stops them from telling the same joke twice.”

“Especially if, unlike Deep, Dogknott really cares about animal rights and welfare and got in trouble with Vought for refusing sponsorships with companies that torture animals,” added a third.

Others are simply excited by the prospect of seeing McGowan, including this person who said, “He played Roan in The 100. Seriously, he’s a good actor.”

A second added, “His role in Shameless was so good that it makes it hard to take him seriously in other roles. Great actor nonetheless.”
