Katsuhiro Harada, producer of Tekken 8, gave an interview to MP1st and confessed that the return of Team Battle mode to the title only depends on the fans. That said, if there is demand, Bandai Namco can prepare the feature to be added to the game in the near future.

The team mode became famous in Tekken 2, but over time, it was slowly forgotten, according to data from the publisher. Apparently, the community still remembers how fun the proposal was, so during the chat the topic ended up becoming an issue.

Harada promptly spoke about the condition for including the mode in the title, and spoke again about how important it is to measure whether investments are worth it. For this reason, the appeal of players needs to be minimally relevant for Bandai Namco to invest in it.

That depends if there is demand for it. We've been conducting user research at considerable cost since the offline era of fighting games. Since transitioning online, we've been analyzing all kinds of data statistically. While I'm sure many played Team Battle Mode with friends and family and have fond memories associated with it, we found that it wasn't played as much by players as community might think.

Harada also said that nostalgia wouldn't have much of an effect on adding the mode to Tekken 8 at this time. Check out:

Team Battle Mode in TEKKEN 2 was the most played, but as the series progressed, it was chosen less and less. If the mode came back, people might play it nostalgically the first few times. However, when viewed from the perspective of the entire player base, many will ask for different content instead of a mode that is not in demand. Furthermore, in the modern era, adding such modes is not as cheap and easy as it once was, and involves significant debugging costs and more.
