Insomniac, Guerrilla and ND suffer cuts

In the United States, Insomniac Games, Naughty Dog and the core Tech, Creation and Support teams. In Europe, Firesprite and Guerrilla. These are the PlayStation Studios affected by major staff cuts “reduction in global workforce” announced by Sony this Tuesday (27). Furthermore, the London Studio was permanently closed.

It has not been revealed how/how many cuts will happen at each company, but it is surprising to see that even the main Sony studios, which make the most successful AAA titles in the industry, such as Marvel's Spider-Man (Insomniac), The Last of Us (Naughty Dog) and Horizon (Guerrilla) were not immune. Santa Monica, from God of War, on the other hand, was not mentioned in the note.

“Our goal at PlayStation Studios has always been to create the best games for PlayStation fans, and our global community of studios represents some of the most creative and talented teams in the gaming industry. The PlayStation 5 is in its fourth year, and we're at a stage where we need to take a step back and look at what our business needs. At the same time, our industry has undergone continuous and fundamental changes that affect how we all create and play. Delivering the immersive stories and narratives that PlayStation Studios is known for, at the quality standards we aspire to, requires a reassessment of how we operate,” Jim Ryan said in the statement.

The company now joins Microsoft, Discord and many other technology giants that made major layoffs at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024. If the industry's goal for the future is to survive 2024, apparently it won't be easy at all. After 10 thousand layoffs last year, we already have almost 7 thousand in just two months of this year.
