Jujutsu Kaisen Fans Think The Anime Got This Manga Scene Wrong

If everyone agrees that MAPPA has done a very good job with its adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisenthis does not prevent some fans from highlighting certain problems, like this potential inconsistency compared to the manga.

Jujutsu Kaisen is undoubtedly one of the best anime of the moment, but also and above all one of the most popular. The adaptation of Gege Akutami's manga by the famous studio MAPPA hit the headlines so much thanks to its season 2 that the anime won numerous awards at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

But although it is popular with the majority, that does not prevent the anime from having flaws. Various scenes from the final season did not live up to the expectations of some fans, who are therefore eagerly waiting to see if this will be corrected with the physical release.

And in other cases, the problems come from the adaptation by MAPPA. In fact, Internet users believe that a sequence from the manga Jujutsu Kaisen was modified, thus giving rise to a major debate on the networks.

Jujutsu Kaisen anime breaks with manga canon

A fan of Jujutsu Kaisen points out that in the anime, Toji Fushiguro manages to block an attack from Satoru Gojo using the Celestial Spear, a cursed object with the ability to cancel all spells. An epic scene, but one that we do not find in the manga according to an Internet user, the latter having shared on Reddit the page where we simply see Toji resisting the assault of the S-class exorcist.

A passage which was entitled to some changes during its adaptation into anime, but the difference between the two formats is now the subject of debate. “The visuals might actually justify this when the blade had to 'pierce' Gojo's barrier to stab him” said a user. “The knife cuts techniques like it cuts flesh but that would not apply here.”

The debate turns to what we actually see. “Does the manga show that he took it? We see Red (the Reversed Spell) being pulled and then Toji against the wall. We can’t see where he was hit” said another user.

This complication leads to other messages, to demonstrate that the anime brings its share of differences compared to the manga. “The final episode of the series shows a TV crew being killed by one of the plagues that the fake Geto released, just before the cameraman dies he catches the plague on video with the camera and people watching on house are shocked to see him, just before a plague bursts through their wall and kills them too” we read in a comment. “But both the anime and manga established that a cursed spirit would not appear on a normal camera”.

Adaptations always result in changes that may not suit everyone. What's important is capturing the spirit of the source material, and Jujutsu Kaisen certainly achieves this. And to continue on the same theme, you can consult the latest theories related to chapter 254 of the manga.
