Valorant veteran Joe Ziegler announced that he is the new director of Marathon. The ex-Riot Games man joined Bungie in 2022 and has been working on the Sony studio's new shooter for around nine months.

In a note on X, Ziegler confirmed his new position, after remaining a mystery for some time. As a result, it is also determined that Christopher Barrett, the project's initial leader, was removed from his command role.

Hello everybody! Fun update: I've been working on Marathon as the game director for nine months. We're still cooking, but I'm excited to share more information with you as we get closer and closer to bringing the game to you all.

Marathon's new director may have implemented changes to the game

This change almost a year ago would have supposedly impacted the major overhaul at Bungie, announced at the end of 2023. The adjustments would have resulted in layoffs, changes to the project schedule and the redirection of devs to other sectors.

Furthermore, the change in the executive position would have already brought the first results for the game's concept. According to a report from IGN (via Insider Gaming), the game will offer a group of pre-determined characters to choose from, instead of custom heroes.

Marathon, planned to be released on PS5, Xbox Series and PC, does not yet have a release date.
