When Clove came out on March 26, 2024, it was obvious that his kit was going to massively shake up the Valorant meta. With his ability to resurrect, boost his health and movement, while being an asset to the team as a Controller, he was destined to revolutionize the game.

However, several months after its release, it did not have the immediate impact that some of Valorant’s most famous Agents had (hello, Chamber). But since Update 8.11, Clove’s position in the meta has evolved considerably.

In update 8.11, Clove received balance changes that almost bordered on nerfing, with cost increases of Boost and its ult Still standing as well as some timing changes. But that doesn’t stop Clove from dominating the meta.

Valorant Agent win rates from Blitz.gg

With 21,825 matches played, Clove still dominates the Radiant ladder

According to Blitz.gg, in Episode 8 Act 3 alone, Clove is consistently in the top three most selected Agents across all ranks. The lowest they have reached in the rankings is fourth in Iron 1 and 2.

At Platinum 3, a good midpoint for the ranks, Clove has a pick rate of 10.5%, with an incredibly high win rate of 52.7%.

To contextualize, this data is taken from 1.5 million matches, and the Agent with almost the same number of matches played, Reyna, only has a 50% win rate. In second place is Deadlock, with only 166,000 matches played and a win rate of 50.3%.

If we look at the stats in Radiant, where the best players are, Clove has a pick rate of 10.9%, once again topping the win rate chart at 53.6% with 21,800 matches played. The Agent with almost the same number of matches played, once again Reyna, only has a win rate of 51%. In second place, Iso has 5,900 matches played and a win rate of 52.5%.

Clove’s dominance was also confirmed in the pro scene and at VCT, as Clove finally made his Tier 1 debut at VCT Pacific, where DRX’s Flashback played him against ZETA DIVISION. DRX won this map 13-0, a perfect match.

As to why Clove has suddenly gained popularity despite the lack of big changes in Valorant, remains a mystery.
