New Jujutsu Kaisen Cover Snubs One of the Franchise’s Heavyweights

Weekly Shonen Jump’s new cover includes some of the most powerful characters in Jujutsu Kaisenbut excludes one from the heavyweight list.

Jujutsu Kaisen is now in its final phase, as teased by the manga publisher by confirming the climax of the Battle of Shinjuku arc on social media. It must be said that it was about time, since all the exorcists had the opportunity to compete against Sukuna, directly in no man’s land or via ambitious tactics.

The fight against the king of plagues began in chapter 222 of Gege Akutami’s manga, more than a year ago. Since then, almost all the characters have come face to face with the terrible fighter, and it is now Yuta’s turn to try a last resort strategy to stand up to him and hope to win.

But Sukuna is not the only enemy still standing. Because his subordinate Uraume is still there, and is occupied by an exorcist just as powerful as him, namely Kinji Hakari. Their duel having often been put aside, it has lasted for several months: it had in fact begun in chapter 237, and is still not over while chapter 262 of Jujutsu Kaisen was released on June 9, 2024.

And it seems that Hakari has not finished being snubbed by the author of the manga. Because on the occasion of the 28th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, a new special cover of Jujutsu Kaisen was shared with readers, without him. Yuji sits in the center, showing his mysterious arm. Around him, we can see Sukuna and Yuta who have started their fight, but also Choso, Maki and Todo in white boxes, or even Kashimo, Higuruma and Kenjaku in black and red sections.

But Hakari appears nowhere, although still actively involved in the manga’s plot. Even before he acted in the Battle of Shinjuku arc, Gege Akutami had introduced him as one of the heavyweights on the Exorcists’ side, with Satoru Gojo claiming that he was one of the only students who could surpass him .

The absence of the character on the cover can be explained by the fact that he was not one of Sukuna’s adversaries. Because to support his comrades, Hakari preferred to face Uraume and thus prevent him from joining his master. Stuck in his duel, the exorcist has not yet been able to face the king of plagues.

Chapter 262 of Jujutsu Kaisen was released on June 9, but the publication will undergo another pause, due to the health of the author. To find out the rest of the match between Uraume and Hakari, you will have to wait several more weeks.
