PlayStation Studios won't hit the brakes if competition diminishes

With rumors about the strategic change for the Xbox division, much is being said about a supposed end to competitiveness. This would be related to PlayStation Studios, as “goodbye” to competition could result in a reduction in third-party games. However, Sony intends to maintain its intensity.

According to Robert Morrison, animator at Bend Studio, the manufacturer will continue to have real reasons to compete. Even a major adjustment in Microsoft's market share wouldn't prevent Nintendo, Netflix, Spotify and other services from competing against the PS4 and PS5.

PlayStation Studios would have “internal” competition for excellence

This way, PlayStation Studios would remain active in the industry to ensure it was offering attractive content to consumers. It would almost be a feeling of “rivalry” between the third-party developers themselves, who would strive to create the “best work possible”.

There is understandable concern among some that the apparent lack of competition could degrade the quality of releases.

At the developer level, PlayStation studios do not compete with Xbox or Nintendo studios. We are all driven by an internal desire to create the best work possible.

Currently, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Housemarque, Firesprite, Bungie, Santa Monica, Insomniac, Firewalk, Haven and others have projects in development.
