Subnautica 2 could be a GaaS with multiplayer elements

A financial report released by Krafton brought big news about Subnautica 2. The new aquatic exploration title could reach next-generation consoles and PC as a game as a service (GaaS), including monetization and multiplayer elements for up to four participants.

According to the document, the third game in the franchise will be released this year, with a date yet to be confirmed. In addition, it will have support for single-player and cooperative mode, “stunning stylized graphics” and an “entirely new” environment made in Unreal Engine 5.

Subnautica 2 will also be a direct sequel to the title released in 2014. With this, fans of the franchise will not need to play Subnautica: Below Zero, which consists more of a chapter with new stories than a continuation itself.

The game has not yet been announced by developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment.

Read the description of the first game below, according to its official page on the PS Store:

After an accident with your Life Capsule, time is short to find water, food and develop your exploration equipment. Obtain resources from the ocean around you, craft knives, lights, diving equipment and a personal vessel.

Set up bases on the seabed. Choose models and components, managing hull integrity as depth and pressure increase. Use your base to store tools, park vehicles, and replenish your oxygen supply as you explore the vast seas.
