The Veilguard is inspired by Final Fantasy X

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is an RPG with strong inspirations for its systems. Director Corrine Busche revealed that the skill tree will be extensive and varied depending on the class. To enrich this progression, Final Fantasy X and XII served as the basis for the system.

In an interview with RPGSite, Busche explained that these specializations will bring greater depth to the gameplay. The intention was to do something similar to the Sphere Grid from FF X, where the spheres positioned to increase the characters’ power need to meet some requirements.

Asked about the subject, Busche confirmed the inspirations behind Dragon Age: The Veilguard:

I was extremely influenced! Undoubtedly. Final Fantasy X – one of my favorites. But I have to say that 12, especially the Zodiac edition, is my favorite. The level of selection of skills, passives and, in our case, also traits – I would say the amount of customization is very similar. The organization is more similar to that of the Sphere Grid. So, Final Fantasy XII might be in my top three favorite games. I’m very influenced by him when it comes to our progression. But if you want to get an idea, the Sphere Grid is more… not exactly the same, but more similar. What we have done, however, to make it more accessible, is that each of the specializations are on the outer edges of the grid.

BioWare is currently working to make Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s progression interface even more accessible to the public. The game will have a maximum level of 50 and we will need to see a little more about this system to have a broad view of the mechanics. Excited to play the new Dragon Age?
