The Veilguard will not be open-world based



BioWare has revealed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s level design will be mission-based, not open-world. As a result, players must experience new scenarios as they embark on main and secondary adventures with their team.

During a conversation with IGN, the RPG’s director, Corinne Busche, commented that the game will leave the open world format. As players explore, it will be possible to expand mission areas, but in a “highly selected” way.

Yes, it is a mission-based game. Everything is hand-touched, handmade and very highly curated. We believe that’s how we get the best narrative experience, the best moment-to-moment experience.

However, along the way, these levels open up and some of them have more exploration than others. Alternative paths, mysteries, secrets, optional content that you will find and solve. So it opens, but in a highly curated, mission-based way.

This news reinforces the strategy of returning to models that worked, especially in the Mass Effect trilogy. Furthermore, it indicates that the company has been following community feedback, following criticism of Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect Andromeda.
