Fallout 5 should arrive sooner or later, but for now Bethesda is working on Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6. Could Obsidian come and help? The studio director responds.

While Starfield is on everyone’s lips, and it should also give us big revelations shortly, and that The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently in production, Bethesda seems to have put aside its license fallout for a good while. But a studio that has already worked on the license could well come and lend a hand, whether for Fallout 5 or any other project.

A new Fallout by Obsidian? The director says yes! But…

And that studio is none other than Obsidian, the dads of Fallout New Vegas, one of the most beloved episodes by fans. In a recent interview, studio boss Feargus Urquhart said he would love to get back to the franchise before he retires. He deeply loves this cult series and he would see himself digging into the universe again. However, nothing is decided yet since Obsidian is working hard on several other projects, such as Avowed and The Outer World 2. For the developer, the studio will not be able to talk about new games before at least the end of 2023.

We are not working on the license at the moment, our schedule is already quite full with AvowedGrounded and The Outer Worlds 2. I don’t know when we’ll start talking about new games, maybe towards the end of the year. But I would love to do another fallout before I retire. But I don’t know yet when it will be, I haven’t set a date for my retirement.

The studio already has a head full of ideas

The man would like to dive back into a fallout, it’s a fact, and he even already has an idea of what he would like to do. A narrative game full of captivating characters and with a strong story. And if there’s one thing Obsidian excels at, it’s writing. This is particularly why Fallout New Vegas is so loved by the fans. This is also why many are impatiently waiting to learn more about Avowed. In any case, if fallout by Obisidian ago, the studio director does not want this to be THE last Fallout of the license. But just a new episode in which he can give free rein to his creativity. Why not the next Fallout 5 or one New Vegas 2 in that case ?

If we do another falloutI would see this as the next chapter of fallout, but not the final episode. This is what is most interesting to me. Because it’s liberating not to have to do something that has to be the most impactful and incredible game, movie or book. Because otherwise, you find yourself trapped if you say that to yourself or to the public.
All I want to do with our games – and if we should do another fallout – is to say to myself: “What are we going to like? What do we think is best for us and the players? What would people like to see? What have we learned over the past two, five or ten years? »
And then go create this unique world. Use PC or console to create an amazing world. But know that the most important are the stories. But also the characters and things that players can do in this world. And that is Fallout. It’s about giving people that true expression of the world and letting them play freely.

Fallout 5 or New Vegas 2 by Obsidian?

If Obsidian is very busy, the studio seems open to creating a whole new fallout. It may well be that Bethesda, which had also claimed that Fallout 5 would come after TES 6, ultimately decides to let Obsidian develop the next installment in the series. After all, most of Bethesda’s studios are very busy at the moment, The Elder Scrolls 6, which won’t see the light of day for quite a while, will become a top priority as soon as Starfield will be released and Obsidian is enjoying a real aura with fans after what he did on Fallout New Vegas. It would therefore be surprising if fans of the franchise were against such news. Wait and see as they say. Anyway, there will be nothing on the board before the end of the year at least.
