Far Cry: a major change for the license, time for renewal?

The Far Cry license is at a turning point in its history. This announcement should delight fans of the Ubisoft saga who have been waiting for a great new game for several years.

The Far Cry license has been blowing hot and cold for several years. If the saga had its climax with the third episode, the following opuses clearly received a mixed reception from players and critics. Even Far Cry 6 and its star Giancarlo Esposito will not have succeeded in achieving unanimity. It is for this reason that the major upheaval that has just been announced could please fans and revitalize the saga at a time when it seems to be bogged down.

A big change for the Far Cry license

Dan Hay served as producer on the Ubisoft franchise before taking over until the release of Far Cry 6, released in October 2021. A few weeks later, this important studio figure was packing his bags, and he now serves as vice president at Blizzard. Ubisoft therefore had to choose a new leader for its strong license and Drew Holmes was chosen. If this name means nothing to you, know that the man worked as a narrative director on Far Cry 5 and New Dawn. He announces the news himself on his LinkedIn account.

Even if Far Cry 5 did not revolutionize the franchise and reach the greatness of the third installment, the open-world FPS received a rather good reception from fans, in any case much better than the sixth installment. The most optimistic will therefore take this news as a positive signal and we can understand them. Hopefully this marks a real revival for the series. Remember that according to the very knowledgeable Tom Henderson, Far Cry 7 is already in development, in addition to a multiplayer spin-off inspired by the DMZ mode of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 also in the pipeline. However, we will have to wait before seeing what impact this position will have on the franchise.
