It has become a tradition that Electronic Arts publishes the Team of the Year – or TOTY for short – for the current FIFA game shortly after the turn of the year. This is previously chosen by the fans from several nominees. In the current year, there were almost 100 kickers, although some well-known players were missing, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Manuel Neuer.
Nevertheless, the TOTY team in FIFA 23 is again made up of a number of top players from the most well-known clubs in European football, including Paris St. Germain, Manchester City and AC Milan.
This is FIFA 23’s Team of the Year
- Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid)
- Achraf Hakimi (Paris St Germain)
- Eder Militao (Real Madrid)
- Theo Hernandez (AC Milan)
- Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)
- Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund)
- Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City)
- Luka Modric (Real Madrid)
- Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
- Kylian Mbappe (Paris St. Germain)
- Lionel Messi (Paris St Germain)
In addition, the so-called “twelfth man” is voted on in FIFA Ultimate Team. The choices are Erling Haaland (Manchester City), Federico Valverde (Real Madrid) and João Cancelo (Manchester City), the voting starts on January 23.

With a total of four players, the USArecord champions have the most kickers for the TOTY, but the Bundesliga is also represented. Jude Bellingham, who has been showing top performances at Borussia Dortmund for some time and is therefore already being courted by many other clubs, was also selected for the team. FC Bayern Munich, on the other hand, is not there this time, last year Robert Lewandowski (now with FC Barcelona) made it into Team of the Year.
TOTY icons coming soon: EA also announced that some Ultimate Team Icons will get new TOTY icon items. This affects a total of 14 players, including Andrea Pirlo, Gerd Müller, Ronaldinho and Javier Zanetti. The new icons will be available from January 20th, this Friday.
FIFA 23 is the last FIFA from EA
FIFA 23 has been available for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC and Switch since the end of September 2022. In our GamePro test for FIFA 23 you can read how we liked the title, but either way the title marks a break. Because it is the last football game from EA with the appropriate license. This year, for the first time, a part of the series will appear with the new name, which is EA Sports FC.
