Final Fantasy 16 graphics made possible by PS5’s SSD, Square Enix claims
Hiroshi Takai, director of final fantasy 16, has once again praised the benefits of the technical capabilities of PlayStation 5 in a recent entry on the PlayStation blog. The creative Japanese has explained what are the characteristics that first caught his attention about the console and has explained that the graphic level they have reached with the title has been possible thanks to PS5.
“The two main things that stood out to me were the size of the memory and the speed of the SSD. I’ve worked with a lot of hardware different over the years, and many have failed to find the right balance between hardware capabilities and memory size,” says Takai. “The PS5 is different though: comes with enough memory installed to take full advantage of the hardware. As for the SSD, while we were developing the game, I was amazed at how fast it was, “he adds to his statements.
“Naturally, we wanted the graphics to be as good as possible, so we put a lot of focus on the details of the character models and the environment, as well as the quality of the lighting and shadows, to make them really shine. Rendering the models on screen is resource intensive, and lighting and shadow effects overlap. This is only possible thanks to the size of the PS5 memory. Clive, the protagonist of FF16it can unleash a wide range of attacks, and the animations and effects for them also fit in memory,” he explains about how the development team has taken advantage of the hardware for the best graphics performance possible.
“Of course, going from cutscenes to gameplay and vice versa it is only possible thanks to the SSD. The way the game seamlessly flows between resource-intensive gameplay and equally resource-intensive scenes, and vice versa, wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the speed of the SSD.” praised the use of the capabilities of the DualSense, which convey a “sense of effort and resistance” thanks to adaptive triggers to better immerse players in the world of FF XVI.
